Diocese of Niagara awarded $75,000

On May 27 Madam Justice J.A. Milanetti issued her judgement awarding the Diocese of Niagara over $75,000 in court costs following a March 20 hearing on the temporary use of church properties. The Diocese had requested $236,893.03. This award has been made against the clergy and churchwardens of St George’s in Lowville; St Hilda’s in Oakville; and the Church of the Good Shepherd in St Catharines who have all affiliated with the Anglican Network in Canada and are being sued by the Diocese. ANiC hopes its Legal Fund will be able to cover these costs, otherwise the wardens and clergy will face personal debt. A later trial will determine permanent ownership of the properties.
