Calgary bishop to retire
Monday, January 2, 2012 at 08:10PM (Staff) AFTER SERVING for five years as Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary, Derek Hoskin has announced his retirement effective Dec. 31st. In a pastoral letter dated Oct. 1, Bishop Hoskin said he decided to retire because 2012 marks the 40th year of his ministry in the Diocese and he will be turning 69. An Electoral Convention of Synod has tentatively been set for June 16th. The date will be confirmed in early January. Bishop Hoskin was elected in 2006 to oversee a Diocese which today includes 87 clergy serving about 13,000 Anglicans in 76 congregations in the southeastern part of Alberta. Some of the larger cities in the Diocese besides Calgary include Red Deer, Lake Louise, Banff, Ft. Macleod, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge. TAP
