    Dear Anglican Planet Reader,

OUR READERS seem to agree with us
that The Anglican Planet, which entered its seventh year of publication in June, is well worth supporting.  We had a wonderful response to an appeal we made in the Spring of 2011– almost $18,400.  We are extremely grateful to so many generous donors, especially in these hard economic times, and will strive to be worthy stewards of your gifts. The Advent 2012 issue is our 66th paper and, with your continued support, there should be many more.

We have taken a number of steps recently to improve our business performance and are considering implementing more changes in the next few months.  You can read about some of these steps in our easy-to-read Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ),which also answers other queries you may have about TAP.  If you would like to receive a detailed copy of our new Proposed Business Plan simply contact us. If, after reading these two documents, you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to call.

We know that no one is having an easy time of it financially these days so we promise to handle whatever donation you are willing to entrust to us with real stewardship.

If you are able to help us with any amount, please write your cheque to "The Anglican Planet" or donate by clicking on the "donate" button in the top left of this page. Amounts over $10 will receive an income tax receipt.

    Calgary bishop to retire

(Staff)  AFTER SERVING for five years as Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary, Derek Hoskin has announced his retirement effective Dec. 31st. In a pastoral letter dated Oct. 1, Bishop Hoskin said he decided to retire because 2012 marks the 40th year of his ministry in the Diocese and he will be turning 69. An Electoral Convention of Synod has tentatively been set for June 16th. The date will be confirmed in early January. Bishop Hoskin was elected in 2006 to oversee a Diocese which today includes 87 clergy serving about 13,000 Anglicans in 76 congregations in the southeastern part of Alberta. Some of the larger cities in the Diocese besides Calgary include Red Deer, Lake Louise, Banff, Ft. Macleod, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge.   TAP
